The story of a man with nothing to lose, who lost it anyway.
I must admit, I've never actually finished watching The Irresponsible Captain Tylor. I watched about half of it. The really shallow surface level problem I had with it was that I didn't like any of the characters besides Tylor. And the show started to focus a lot on the other characters as it went along. Particularly the Raalgon people. I just found them so unrelatable and boring.
Animation-wise Captain Tylor is pretty great. It also has a cool style. That dated 1990s anime look is very nostalgic for me. I started writing this long before Voodoo Moose came along. Actually I finished writing it before Voodoo Moose was formed. But I just had the script laying around. So when we started the channel, I brought it up in a meeting and we went through with making it.
The problem I have with it in retrospect is that the viewer might not have the same perspective on the George W Bush administration as I do. And probably most people who don't care about American politics have no idea what the hell the George Bush and Dick Cheney characters are even doing. It's kind of odd to have two characters based on an American presidency from the early 2000s, vandalized over an anime from the 1990s, in a video produced in the late 2010s. It's sort of an odd creature. But I do quite like some of the dialog in it. Making an abridged one shot is a lot of fun because you can do whatever you want. I really wrote this script for my own amusement, rather than catering to any audience in particular.
If you want to watch The Irresponsible Captain Tylor, you can watch the whole series legally on YouTube. It was uploaded by the North American rights holder, Nozomi Entertainment.
